Painting Aircraft

Featured Replies

I have always wanted to give painting a try I have PSP 7.0 Does anyone know of a simple tutorial where you can just do a simple one and learn from there. I have little knowledge about painting but really want to give it a try. Any help if much appreicated

The one people generally link to at current is: http://www.gjsmith.net/Tutorial/full_tutorial.htmHowever this one is getting a little dated. I would direct you towards mine but it wouldn't be of use to you at its current state. Also, feel free to ask any questions in this forum.. there are many people willing to help out. :)

Thanks for the fast reply. Guess my first of many questions is: Do I have to have a blank aircraft or can I paint over existing ones. And also when I open the texture of an aircraft some have black screen. Can anyone help on just what I am looking for and do I save them as an overwrite or new bmp?

You can use existing ones if you want, but if you wish to upload it you'll need to get permission from the original author. Also, if they've been saved in DXT3 (the reason for you seeing the blank screen) then reusing them would be a bad idea as they're compressed. Resaving them will lower the quality. The blank screen you're seeing is because (as said above) the bmp has been saved as a DXT3. This is a compressed file format, theres a thread at the top of this forum discussing the difference between 32bit and DXT3. In order to view them you'll need to open them up in a program called "DXTBmp" (search it on google). Others like "ImageTool" but DXTBmp is more simple to use.If you want to make a good original repaint then your best bet is to try and find a paint kit for it (they'll be one for probably nearly every model). It doesn't matter whether you overwrite or make a new bmp, just keep in mind that overwriting is obviously removing the original bmp.
