July 29, 200619 yr I am trying to do my first paint. I have managed the tail for the moment, but am still not sure about the fuselage area. Why is it that the paintkit only has one PSD file, but the actual FS model textures are divided into three? How can I save into three separate DXT3 files with the correct proportions? Note, I am not asking about converting from PSD to BMP to DXT3, as I know how to do this; I am just not sure how to divide the main fuselage textures given in PSD file to the required four (F1_B732_F1_T, F1_B732_F2_T, F1_B732_F3_T.bmp, F1_B732_F4_T). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)Here is a pic of my first try. I have managed to do the tail succesfully (TACA livery needs improvement though ;) ). :) But the fuselage is a mystery to me :( .http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153083.jpgregards,Macs :)
July 29, 200619 yr Author Ok. Somehow I managed to do this. Question now is if I can get away with just one file? Why four of 1024x1024 each? Any help would be appreciated. :) Man, this painting business is really pure art! ;)Sucky, but at least it is something... :)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153101.jpgregards,Macs :)
July 29, 200619 yr How did you do it?Usually the reason for having one big psd is simply to make it easier to paint. Then what the painter would do is either drag over the paint scheme on to the individual bmps, lining them up correctly. Or crop the large psd to the size required (a good way to do it is to have all the the bmps in the psd so you can see how much to crop to)Having not painted it, its just a pure guess mind :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 29, 200619 yr Author Morgan, Ok. that makes sense. I kind of did what you mentioned, but need to make sure they are lined up a little better. Having one PSD makes a lot of sense now. Thanks, regards,Macs :)
July 29, 200619 yr Yeah, its probably the best way to cope with the problem of split textures.. usually works pretty well. No worries, feel free to ask away :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
August 2, 200619 yr Author Been fighting alignment of tail and fuselage textures. Anybody have tips for this? Thanks,Still got work to do...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153302.jpgFrom this angle it is not as bad as perspective hides the misalignment...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153303.jpgregards,Macs :)
August 2, 200619 yr Slowly edge the rear fuselage paint scheme stripes forward, looks like about 10 pixels.. using FSRepaint helps with this. You just have to keep moving it a few pixels back and forth until it lines up :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
August 4, 200619 yr In regards to your question about # of files, I've noticed it depends on the modeler. I've seen 26 .bmp files (13 night/13 day), 4 .bmp files, and 1 big one.I guess it really depends on what model program they used.
August 4, 200619 yr Author Talking about day and night textures, the TMII only has day textures. Gonna investigate :)regards,Macs :)
