December 27, 200619 yr I tried my first repaint in FSX and I have encountered one problem that I cannot seem to overcome. When my repaint is finished and I load the new repaint files into FSX, the windows are green. Any idea why this might be happening?I use Image tool to convert the original files to .bmp so I can work on them in Paint Shop Pro, then I save the files as either photoshop or .bmp files and use Imagetool to reconvert to DXT5 files.Everything comes out just fine except the windows - they are green - the same color that they are in the .bmp file. Help!!BTW, what is the _spec file? Thanks for any help.Mike
December 27, 200619 yr Have you applied the alpha channel..? Could be the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 27, 200619 yr No I haven't applied alpha channel. I am not sure how to. I tried to repaint similar to the way I did for FS9 and it works except for this one problem of green windows.
December 27, 200619 yr Not having FSX I can't experiment but I could hazard a guess its not all that different than FS9. The alpha channel in this case probably controls the level of opacity of the windscreen glass. So if you paint it green in the texture.. you can set the opacity to 70%.. giving the impression of glass. The following is designed for FS9 but may be of help..ClickIf it isn't you're going to have to sit tight until someone can help you out :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 27, 200619 yr This is frustrating! I have tried virtually all different ways of making the windows transparent and nothing works. I tried setting my own alpha channel - nothing.I will keep trying but I am getting aggravated and may have to put it down for a while. That is a shame because I seem to have it all except for this window problem. AAArrrrgh!Mike
December 27, 200619 yr Perhaps opening up another paint scheme of the same model and seeing what the difference is between your bmp and the correctly displayed bmp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 27, 200619 yr I got it!! When flipping the image in DXTBmp I was not flipping the alpha as well so they didn't line up. When I flip both the image and alpha, success!!!I created my own alpha channel using green and it works like a charm. My first repaint is the Cessna Grand Caravan in 'American Red Cross' livery. Came out pretty good for first try in FSX. I'm very pleased - will upload. Thanks to all for your help - I learned an awful lot today and now I can begin my repaints and upload them. Thanks again!!Mike
December 28, 200619 yr Fancy posting a shot here? Would like to see it :)No problem.. not too sure how much help I was..! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 28, 200619 yr You were alot of help - gave me that last bit of persistency I needed to figure out the problem. I figured out how to extract the alpha channel before modification in DXTBmp and how to import the alpha channel after modification. Works like a charm and gives my windows some opacity - they were too clear when fully transparent. Here is a pic of the repaint with the window problem solved:http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2vj37/sitebui...s/red_cross.jpg
December 28, 200619 yr Very cool, I'm sure it'll be popular :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
