CLS DC10 public paintkit question

Featured Replies

I'm painting a livery on the CLS DC10 public paintkit and want to see the livery I'm painting in FSX. If I want to see my paint job in FSX do I need to use a particular texture conversion utility to convert the paintkit to FSX texture files or do I just copy the public paintkit to the aircraft's texture folder?

Regarding the file-format the simulator uses, FSX is no different than FS9 (presuming one knows how to convert their paint-prog file-format to FS9 file-format)Just as FS9 has some file-format options so does FSX.I only use one program to convert file-formats: DXTbmp.DXTbmp will convert paintprog, BMP file-format to DDS DXT5 or BMP DXT3 (with mips) for FSX repaints. It's your choice. FSX default file-format is DDS DXT5P.S Thanks to Martin Wright for giving us DXTbmp for FREE.====

That's not what I meant. I know about DXTbmp. What am I suppose to do with the paintkit after I'm done with it to display textures in FSX? I tried DXTbmp for the paintkit to convert to DX3 with alphas but I don't know what to name the file. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to put the paintkit in my aircraft's texture file as the liveries that came with the package don't have a paintkit file in their texture files. I was thinking if there is something I need for the finished paintkit similar to Flight1's texture utility that is used for the Iron Knuckles DC9 package. PS: I haven't really finished my paint job but I'd like to see how it looks in FSX so far.

Hi,Sorry if I am wrong, but I get the impression you do not know how to build in a repaint in FSX.Maybe you never made a repaint for FS9 and have to learn the proces. In fact adding a repainted plane in FSX is quiet similar to doing the same job in FS9.The main difference is the path to the location wich is:....Microsoft Flight Simulator XSimObjectsAirplanes......Have a look here http://members.lycos.co.uk/mcwdainow/Here you`ll find an excellent tutorial about painting. If you download this repaint , or just the readme txt. you can see how the building-in precedure goes. http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...acrp&DLID=94387Leen de Jager
