Silver Doped Fabric

Featured Replies

Hi....this is my first posting here and I wanted to pick the brains of the experts.....:-)In painting aircraft for FS2004, I just wondered if anyone had a good 'Recipe' for a good Silver doped effect for the fabric surfaces of older aircraft such as the Tiger Moth for example. At the moment just a grey colour seems to be all that I have seen but most of these look what they are....just grey.. and too light a shade makes the aircraft look almost white.... I was thinking that possibly someone on here may have a more realistic option especially as so many light aircraft particularly from the 'Golden Era' all had Silver doped fabric flying surfaces at least.Alternatively is there a preferred one colour to use to represent Silver doped fabric....(would appreciate RGB values if there are)Many thanks.Bridon Bear (Dorset UK)

Welcome :)I think the best way to go would be to look at real images and just tr to mimic them. Here's some images I thought could be useful:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1129347/L/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1150579/L/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1176117/L/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1188564/L/ Use the eye dropper and pick a colour to use for the main fuselage, an area 1/3rd of the way up would probably be the best. Then experiment with adding a highlight going along the top part of the fuselage and perhaps darker areas. You could use layers to experiment with the opacity of these.Try to not use much of an alpha channel on it, if any at all. You could also add perhaps a very light amount of "noise" to it, giving more texture.

Excellant idea mcwdainow.....I will try your method (sounds good to me..:-) )Superb links to Silver tex's as well. The 'noise' suggestion seems to work a treat...kept it subtle and initial experiments look promising. Thanks once more.Regards.Bridon Bear (Dorset UK)
