Take off power

Recommended Posts

Guest bisinchi

Hi,I'm using Bob Scott's excellent FDE, as I mentioned in a previous post, I had issues taking off with a heavy loaded A340-300.I was using TAKO/GA thrust then, but after, I tried a similar take off and applied power with the joystick (and used more power). Is there any way to change the TO/GA max setting?I know it's possible to play with the Flex mode, but is the max power, really the max setting available? In that case, it might be a bit too short for a heavy plane. Regards,Francois

In the PSS A330 and 340s, max TOGA thrust is achieved when outside air temperature (OAT) is 20+ISA. At sea level, ISA is 15C. Therefore, TOGA provides max thrust at (20+15) = 35C. If the outside air temperature is colder or warmer than ISA+20, you are better off using flex thrust set at ISA+20. For changes in ISA which is only dependent on airport elevation, use the following calculation:ISA = 15

Yes but flex thrust and max thrust are different things! You want one or the other, not both.

Are you using version 1.2J of the FDE (31 Oct 04)? I just uploaded it a few days ago...it should fix the takeoff power issues you describe. A 340 loaded to MTOGW now takes about 9000 feet of rwy from brake release to liftoff.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV V L-300Washington, DC
