Team AVSIM Practice Thread #6

Recommended Posts

MM has the baton LOWW-LGLM(Vienna-Limnos)ETA 1620Z-----Please see the RTW Duenna by John Mueller.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...sg_id=555&page=We need to get this program to work reliably. So please do some beta-testing, including during Practice sessions.-----------------------------------------------------We care conducting a practice run for Team AVSIM to prepare for the Round the World Race. The actual race begins on February 20th. So this is a good time for old veterans to renew their skills and for new teammates to get the procedures down before the actual race begins. One of the keys to our winning the last two years has been our organization. We want to keep the baton in the air. That means that we try to have someone at the destination airport waiting, with engines warmed up and flight plan filed, ready for the arriving teammate. When the landing pilot announces on the forum "The baton is free at ICAO" (ICAO being the ICAO of the landing airport), the waiting teammate immediately announces "I have the baton" and takes off. (Best if each Race Leg begins in a new "subthread")The sequence looks like:----The "I have the baton" poster grabs the baton and takes off.He then, or in a forum edit a couple of minutes later, gives the destination airport (ICAO) and ETA in Zulu time. For fun, the pilot might also give his aircraft.Under that thread, the pilot posts updates to the flightplan. Changes in ETA or destination. The pilot lands and prepares and posts his screenshot. The pilot, while posting the confirmation shot, declared "The baton is free at ICAO"-------The ETA should be in Zulu time (say 1425z). (Zulu is UTC or what we used to call GMT. For current Zulu time, go to http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?UTC/s/0/java ) Posting the destination airport and the ETA allows the next pilot to begin his preparations

Looks good. Just completed my own testflight too, including a touch and go at Jackson Hole because I came in way too fast :)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105966.jpgOne thing I'd like added to the report is the average speed over ground and maybe average ias over the flight.

Just completed an evaluation run of the DC7/C in a long distance test evaluation. Plenty of range and respectable speed. Faster than the Avanti over the same distance.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/106013.jpgSome pictures from this test leg are here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=185426&page=Small correction: pics taken over the South Pacific not South Atlantic as message states.Jeff

Wow, that was tough. It was totally snowed in at LTBR, almost zero visibility. The ILS is offset from the runway by a few degrees and I literally could not see it until I passed over it. I imediately diverted to the nearest airport LTFJ which was not much better. I considered crossing the lake to another airport but on my GPS, LTFJ had two runways, one of which (9/27) was pretty long. I almost landed on the tower thinking the tower avoidance lights were the VASI!! After making two passes over runway 9 and 27, I swung around and luckily for me, the weather cleared up enough for me to see the runway from 1/4 mile out. The Navajo touched down about half way down runway 9 and I pretty much coasted to the end of the runway, where I applied the brakes and skidded to a halt. I missed skidding off the threshold by about 200'. Wow, that was enough to get my heart pumping at 3am EST! Ok good luck taking off from that airport!BTW, the ride from LGLM to the Turkish border was very nice, clear weather, mild buffeting. Once over Turkey, the weather deteriorated quickly.PS: Watch out for the terrain!

Not that it matters, but I actually landed at LTFJ, not LTBR. I posted that in my subject line and in the body of my proof posting. In the real race, I think we have to be aware of exactly where people are taking off and landing. I was snowed in at LTBR and diverted to LTFJ.

Landed LLJR Jerusalem, Israel, rw30Nice weather, no winds. Small airport on hill (2500'), hilly region.Duenna validation photo attached. Nice program! I actually exited FS and had to restart it in order to 'drop the baton'. Duenna remember where I was and kept the log file straight, nice work!Good luck!
