FSXLive review

I agree about the poor models and paints for FSXLive Traffic. You touched on it briefly, put from a different perspective, and that is that you can replace the models and paints with high quality freeware models and paints, such as those from EvolveAI, AI Aarvdark, or the Fruit Stand. The trick is, it takes a lot of work and patience, and some renaming of aircraft, textures, etc. but in the end, the freeware models make FSXLive so much better.Their are two other major issues with the accuracy of FSXLive traffic they have not yet addressed. One is that several regional carriers fly for mutliple airlines, yet only one paint is represented for that airline. For instance, Mesa Airlines (ASH) flies the CRJ2 for USAirways, Untied, and GO!, yet only one paint is represented for the whole airline. So, in Hawaii, you see US Airways paints (old America West Express colors) flying CRJ2's in Hawaii, instead of GO! For AI realist's this is no good. What's the point of having up to date, on the spot LIVE traffic, if the paint and airline are wrong. This is a problem with all the regional carriers that fly routes for multiple airlines. Another big mistake is the Cargo carriers for the main airlines. I am talking the big airlines that fly the same aircraft, such as a B744, but in both cargo and passenger variations. FSLive does not differentiate, so you dont get the appropriate paints, you end up with too may passenger aircraft flying the heavies, and not the cargo variations when appropriate. Both of these issues could be addressed by Air Nav Systems with one more variable in their programming, that is flight numbers. Regionals and Cargo planes could be adjusted to match flight numbers, so mulitple paints that fly for ASH as an example, could be recognized based upon their flight numbers. The regionals break their flights into specific groups based upon the carrier they are flying for. This is fix that would go a long way. Some other important carriers are just flat out missing, such as Atlantic Southeast (ASQ), Acey. No reprentation at all. However, the coverage of airlines is better than FSLive for 2004.Overall, if you want AI traffic for North America, this program has fantastic potential, but it still fails to live up to what it could do, that is, completely replacing the frequent downloading of new AI schedules brought to us by the great freeware authors, and showing us accurate airline traffic for airlines, (and GA IFR flights) that are not published. We can only dream they will update these issues.Brian S.
