February 22, 200323 yr Dave,Jeroen is going to take the final "racing" leg: KMYR-KLGA.I'm going to fly along in "shadow". (I'm not VATSIM capable, so I'll do this invisibly. Though can follow with ServInfo.)I'd love to have you join us. (See Jeroen's flightplan in the thread above.)The only change in plan would be if METRO752 comes in. We'd like to have him fly the final leg, as he flew the first on. Right now, he'll led the final ceremonial flight. Please join in if you can.Mike --Mike MacKuen
February 22, 200323 yr Mike -- thanks, I'll fly shadow as well, as I'm not on vatsim either (though all this talk of it has me intrigued, I may look into it getting set up to do so)- dcc
February 22, 200323 yr Probably the best time will be evening GMT, ca. 1900Z. That works for pretty much all the European folks and the American folks.--M
February 22, 200323 yr Down at KMYR 1422z. Sorry about the delay, had to go downwind for 17. Images to follow...GeraldKMLB
February 22, 200323 yr The last stretch, let's hope the fog over New York clears a bit before we arrive.Starting engines, expect to be off in about 10 minutes.
February 22, 200323 yr Since we have such a commanding lead, can we take a round about way to LGA?I was thinking for the final leg of starting say in KALB, flying down the VFR route over the Hudson River, turning final over Central Park for a landing. But from what I hear LGA wx isn't good. maybe the extra time we take to go up to New York might clear some up. I'll have to take a look at the prog charts.I think we'll still get to LGA before the other side does.(I was originally thinking of the last leg going from KBTV to KLGA) but think that most people probably don't want to fly all the way up to my home state :)Woodreau / KMVL
February 22, 200323 yr Gerald,Well done. The weather looked pretty intimidating but courage prevailed(!).Hope you will join the finale.Mike --Mike MacKuen
February 22, 200323 yr We'll see how the weather is over New York. If it's nice we can always do some sightseeing before landing (if ATC allows of course).
February 22, 200323 yr Matt,Same from me. This turned out to be great fun, and I hope that we can do something like this again. I think that the spirit of competition did not intrude into the overall fun of this event. Thanks for organizing a great event and a tip of my hat as well to the Flightsim team!Best,Gerald SandridgeKMLB
February 22, 200323 yr 16,000. Nice to see the sun.1509Z. FL350. Over ISO. GS 390. Making good time, but can't keep up with that Starship. --Mike MacKuen
February 22, 200323 yr Hi Mike,Thanks. Not sure if it was courage or just plain "get there itis." I busted minimums big time:TOWER: Baron N021GS exit runway when able.TOWER: Baron 1GS contact ground 120.30 and call the tower when parked.Guess I have a date with the FSDO!GeraldKMLB
February 22, 200323 yr How far ahead are you guys? I've been watching this whole thing and decided to chase/escort to KLGA for the last flight. I took off from KMYR at 1445Z; it's currently 1503Z and I'm at FL190, about 90 knots due south of RDU. Going about 300 knots groundspeed in an EMB-120. Hope to catch up or come close. I'm on VATSIM as PWA3007.Any specific flight plan? Right now I'm heading up to Richmond then steering east of DC, over Paxtuent and Wilmington, then descending in for the rwy 4 ILS at LGA.Anyway, hope to see y'all at some point.Regards,Marc Sykes
