Saving space with common aircraft textures?

Recommended Posts

Guest Stearman

Hi, I'd much appreciate any help with this:In FS9, if I have a specific aircraft with a number of different liveries, I assume all the different textures must go into separate folders (named texture.*) within the aircraft's folder. But what about common textures (e.g. cockpit, landing gear, props, etc.)?Is it really necessary to repeat these in every different texture.* folder, or they can be stored only once in a common location? Thanks in advance, best regards.

Hi,They can be stored in the main FS TEXTURE folder. But if different models use different textures but the same filenames, you'll have to put one set of them into the plane's texture.xx folders. Many times common night textures (xxx_L.bmp) can be placed there as well.Be aware that this DOESN'T work in FSX.--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

"Be aware that this DOESN'T work in FSX."This is precisely how FSX handles SimObject textures. The common files are stored in the Main Texture folder: texture=and the repaints are stored in the numbered folders texture=#This is why the FSX numbered texture folders are only one-third the size of the main FSX SimObjects folders.[/font size]As noted, this is NOT the way FS9 handles textures
