2D Cockpit views disappeared

Recommended Posts

I'm having an usual problem with my FS9 installation. When in 2D cockpit, I have the main panel view, but nothing else. I have no left, right, up, back, etc. The scenery appears but it's like you're standing in air. There are no parts of the aircraft showing. This happens on any aircraft where those views are a function of the VC. To clarify, some aircraft have .bmp's that exist as those windows. On those planes, I have a view. Examples are the FSD Commander and the Flight1 Cessna 310. The VC works okay on everything and all other views are okay. the planes fly normally. I do have FSX with SP1 installed also and it works fine. I am using a CH Products yoke. I have also tried my MS jostick and it does the same thing. I have tried replacing the .cfg file with a copy from a known 'good' install that was on an old drive. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times. The first uninstall did not work with the FS9 uninstall file and I did the uninstall based on the info from MS Knowledge base article. this includes removing all FS9folder including flights and the registry deletes. Since that time, I re-installed, and uninstalled again but I was able to use the uninstaller file. One intersesting thing is that .cfg file in Documents and settings will not re-generate a new file. I take pretty good care of this computer. I defrag regualarly with Ultimate Defrag, update Windows each week, update McAfee Ant-virus daily, and keep the drivers updated. I have a 300GB drive with two partions. One partiton is just used to save things. I have lots of free space on both partitions. The computer has 2.5GB RAM and an Nvidia 7600 GS 512MB video card. I have one extra fan installed and I don't see any heat problems.I have tried installing with/without system restore and I tried installing after deleting Windows prefetch files. quite frankly, I am lost as to what could cause this. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well you are not alone. I am having the same thing happen. I can't tell you how to fix it, but now I am thinking it might be one of my newly installed aircraft. I have tried everything that I can think of to rectify this situation, to no avail. If you find out anything, please post here and I will do the same. This just started happening.

To answer both posts, check your FS9.cfg under the section for this line: SEE_SELF=0Change it to SEE_SELF=1 and the display when in 2-d mode should be back as it was.Regards,John

Thanks to both Gunman02 and John. I appreciate any input to this. I've gone to the extremes with uninstalls and re-installs. John, a big thank you, but I had already checked that setting for See_self in the .cfg file. A couple of odd things .....On re-installs with the Micrsoft folder deleted (that includes the Documents and Settings folder where the .cfg file should be, the main folder under Programs and the flights folder) the .cfg does not re-generate. I've tried it many times. I have to copy in .cfg from an old drive. Here's another thing... FSX or FS9 doesn't care which CD is in the drive. Either one will run when the other app's CD is in the drive. After re-installing, FS9 wil still look for my flight log (by my name) and on 'create a flight' the airports will still show NJ airports that I use. I kinow it has to be that there is a file out there holding preferences that I haven't found. Once again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate any help. I used to think that I was pretty savvy with FS9, but not any more. And to gunman02, we're not alone. I posted this in another forum (I'm looking everywhere for help!) and someone else there has the same deal.

Try this--in flight, try hitting the "W" key a couple of times while in flight. See if that "temporarily" brings back the side views. Next, do a search for fs9.cfg everywhere. Perhaps you have multiple copies? Regards,John

To all who took the trouble to comment and offer suggestions.....I have found a resolution, although I can't honestly say that I know what the problem is. I opened FS9 under my wife's windows account and it opened just fine. Boy! Am I ever sorry that I lost all those add-ons. It'll take forever to re-install 'em but I'm not complaining. The .cfg file generated as it should. I created another user account for me and it also worked fine. This, to me, indicates that there is something hidden in the registry under 'HKEY_current_user' or in the Documents and settings folder. If I find it, I'll post it.TO ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM... try opening a new user acount for Windows. Please post here if it works, I'd love to know that I helped somebody else!!!

Why don't you delete your FS9.cfg file? When you do that and open FS9 form your user account, it will generate a new file, and hopefully it will fix the problem. Now that you say that from your wife's user account it works, try the method I gave you.Best regards from ColombiaLuis Miguel
