November 15, 200718 yr Can someone point me to some good website about it? I wish to learn more and detailed about it...For example, I hear sometimes people report "Speedbird 565, with information zulu". I gathered it has something to do with weather? And if so, then how do you know which "information" you have...delta, alpha, zulu...?Another thing that I would need is, a website that has detailed descriptions of non-precision approaches - non ILS. On how to fly without those PMDG FMCs and Nav-Helps. I see on Cessna for example an OBS, what is that etc...I know, I usually fly PMDG and big birds, so I have those nice computers to use, but I thought maybe, as a kick in my hobby, something new :)Much obliged :)
November 15, 200718 yr Yes the "information zulu" etc is the Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS) and is designed to ensure that pilots have the up to date winds, QNH, visibility etc and it gives details of active runways. A description can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Ter...rmation_ServiceWhen flying online some controllers will have an automated ATS on a particular frequency. Others will put it into their sign-in notes when you connect to them. The ATIS will tell you what the "alpha, bravo, charlie" etc is (it increments by one letter on each update) which you will quote back to the controller so he knows you're not working with out of date info. For your other question there is lots of useful info at http://www.smartcockpit.com/Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
