Many problems with overlays :-(

Featured Replies

I have uploaded a 7 overlays AFCAD for Heathrow yesterday, but there are still problems I want to fix.1.: Why doesn't landing aircrafts tayi to THEIR overlays, but to the cargo or other ones?2.: Why can land 5 aircrafts the same time and crash? Thanks

Overlays really don't work very well for sending arriving aircraft to the right terminals. When a plane lands and contacts Ground, it is directed to the overlay which is closest to its current position. FS2002 defines "closest" as the nearest Airport Position, which is the small pink cross which comes up in the center of the screen when you start AFCAD. You can use AFCAD to move the center position around, but in most cases you will always have to compromise.Overlays work OK for parallel runways, where you can arrange that aircraft landing on a runway will always be closest to a given overlay regardless of where on the runway they end up. Of course, that means 1 overlay per runway (where 9/27 is ONE runway, not 2.) When you have crossing runways, you run into a problem because arriving aircraft end up at a different location depending on wind direction, and geometrically you can't guarantee which overlay you'll end up in.Overlays are very good for one thing - getting more out of your runways. The recently-uploaded KFLL (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) scenery opens up one runway for GA and the other for commercial aircraft, as an example. If you really want to separate airlines by terminal, which is usually the goal of overlay structures with more overlays than runways, then you should look into RAFCAD (details at ProjectAI.com.)

It's a good thing, but how can "I" take the airlines and in Hethrow special the aircraft-types (BA 747 and 777 to another terminal than the other BA's) to a special gate?If you want to test it, you find the files below, but only txt, because the forum don't like zip's.
