Is there a "best" set of drivers for 9800GT, FS9, WinXP 32bit

Featured Replies

As stated in the title. My 9800GT should be arriving today and I want to get my FS9 rig back up and running asap. I've not purchased a new vid card in years and haven't used an Nvidia card in like 5 years. Wondering if there is a known set of "best" or "preferred" drivers that seem to work better than others. I'm searching the forum right now and most of the posts are referencing either Vista or 64-bit operating systems.Setup is:E4400 C2D @ 2.92 GHzASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboardEVGA 9800GT 512mbWindows XP Pro 32-bit SP2Flight Simulator 9.12GB A-data RAM22" LCD widescreen, 1680x1050 resolution.

I have not heard of any specific Forceware being better with FS9 than any other. Go to Guru3d.com and get the latest WHQL's - should be 181.20. Only if you experience serious issues with these should you look at using previous WHQL releases - again all previous ones can be had on guru3d.com.

Thanks sharrow, that's exactly what i ended up doing last night. got the latest forceware and nhancer. i installed those 181.20 drivers and actually couldn't get the computer to boot except in safe mode. uninstalled them and installed a previous driver version and things seem to be working ok.

I was doing some experimenting this past weekend with a fresh install of XP/Pro SP3 and had no problems with using the new 181.20 drivers.

Considering these are WHQL (Windows High Quality Labs) certified I am surprised you had issues. There are recommend ways of uninstalling old and installing new Forceware. Tweakguides detail the process here.If the previous ones are working for you then you're good to go. Just be aware that you may need to install newer Forceware/PhysX drivers if you have your eye on Mirror's Edge.
