MD-11 Polar Navigation

Dear Captains,I'm a japanese and not proficient English.In the Polar Navigation (FMS.100.32), is the word 'transitions' used as a noun or a verb?Then, I have been unable to understand accurately the last phrase "Within 2 NM - - - polar region".Is that means to manualy off the FD for the wings level mode?Sincerely,Kan-ichiro Fushihara

It is used as a verb. You could say "it changes" to true heading mode above 73
