Crazy metars (ASA build 316)

Recommended Posts

Hi Jim, still getting used to the new ASA but i'm having a couple of little problems, and seen as there's far less options than there were in the las Asv6.5 im not sure what to do. First of all ASA is not generating the correct Metars, the dates and times arer right but the weather isn't accurate to real events, this was the metar ASA was showing on my final approach to stockholm:ESSA 222054Z 27003KT 0913 FG BKN135 OVC251 FEW416 -RA M01/M01 Q1000 RMK ADVANCED INTERPOLATIONwhere as this was the actual metar valid at the time: (taken from aviation digital data service website)ESSA 222050Z 27004KT 0600 R01L/P1500N R19R/P1500N R01R/1000VP1500D R19L/P1500N FZFG VV002 M01/M01 Q1000 01710173 08710164 51710170 TEMPO 2000ESSA 222020Z 26004KT 0700 R01L/1500N R19R/P1500N R01R/P1500N R19L/P1500N FZFG VV002 M01/M01 Q1000 01710173 08710164 51710170 TEMPO 2000notice the strange 913 for visibility and the fact ASA has added rain where non existed, the temprature and pressure are the only things right. Also on my return to Leeds i got this metar:EGNM 222242Z 17607KT 16255 FEW030 SCT097 RA 03/01 Q979 RMK ADVANCED INTERPOLATION RMK FORCED TO DESTINATIONwhen these were the actual real metars that existed:EGNM 222220Z 18007KT CAVOK 03/M01 Q0979EGNM 222120Z 17006KT 140V230 CAVOK 03/M00 Q0979notice again strange visibility 16255 and the fact that ASA has added rain when the real world metar was CAVOK! Also notice the clouds and altitudes, no idea where ASA is getting this info from, I just want it to display the real world weather downloaded every 10 mins as ASV6 did. I have noticed the words ADVANCED INTERPOLATION at the end of all the strange metars but have no idea what it is or how to turn it off, i cant find an ini file for ASA to post my selected options but they're pretty much default. Finally ASA always changes the time inside FS9 after its finishing setting the weather, how do i stop it doing this? Please forgive all my ignorance on this, im sure it's another excellent program from the weather masters of flight simulation, its just so different from asv6 and i can't work out how to get it to do what i want! Thanks for your time.Regards Mark

Hi,In the cases here you are getting a blending of weather from surrounding stations, that is what the Advanced Interpolation message means. So in that case you cannot directly compare our data with another source.A VV of 002 may very well be a vis of 913 depending on the units used. When you returned to Leeds please notice that you have forced destination weather on in the options page and once again you are getting a blending of weather. In this METAR no visibility is reported:EGNM 222220Z 18007KT CAVOK 03/M01 Q0979Also please notice that our METAR is an hour later than this: EGNM 222120ZPlease keep an eye on this and report back as necessary. Thanks,

Thanks Jim, im starting to understand what Advanced Interpolation means, just looks a little unrealistic when i print out the metar reports, usually visibility for example is rounded of to the nearest 100 so 913 looks a little strange, prefered how it looked in the print out on ASV6, more realistic to real world metars, but no big deal i suppose. With regards to my arrival back at EGNM, i did notice that EGCC and EGGP (2 stations only about 40-60 miles away) were reporting rain and although i did have forced destination weather on in the options page my arrival airport was EGNM (with flight plan loaded) so i thought ASA would force neigbouring stations to be the same as EGNM (i.e CAVOK) rather than forcing EGNM to be similar to other stations, thats probably why i got clouds and rain when it had been CAVOK all day at EGNM, i lnow it was raining at EGNM because i live only 10 mins from the airport! Ive downloaded the latest beta and ill keep seeing what happens, be nice if there was an option to switch off advanced interpolation and just use the raw data from latest metars as was the case in ASV6, but no matter, I still really enjoy ASA and certainly the new X-gauge is much better, keep 'em coming. Thanks again for your time Jim, really appreciated.Regards Mark
