January 31, 200917 yr I have just read the following excerpt from the MD11 manual: After landing, all ten spoiler panels may be extended to maximum deflection by automatic operation of the spoiler handle. In order for this to occur, the SPOILER handle must be armed and the flaps at 31 degrees or more. After main wheel spinup, the SPOILER handle moves to position the full ground spoiler position (GROUND SPOILER) and locks. Maximum ground spoilers are then deployed.I'm not seeing this. Upon main wheel touchdown I see the spoilers extend to about 30deg (half). Full extension doesn't occur until the NOSEWHEEL makes contact with the surface? What is correct? Regards,Martin Neep
January 31, 200917 yr The quote is incorrect. Spoilers extend to half deflection at main wheel touchdown, and full deflection after the nose is down. This is why it's especially important to lower the nose promptly after touchdown.
