April 23, 200323 yr Hi All,One of the latest uploaded file is the scenery file for Tacan Beacons by Marcel Ritzema. I have downloaded this file as I always download everything concerning the Netherlands. :-)However, due to my lack of knowledge in aviation I do not quite know what to do with these beacons. I normally fly into or from Schiphol by Lago. I have the latest Sids and Stars for Schiphol. But, what can I do with these Beacons for the other dutch airports? How should I use it, what do these Tacan Beacons do? Or is it something I already had, but never knew about?I would appreciate if somebody could explain more about the Tacan Beacon and when or how to use this. Thanks in advance for your help!
April 24, 200323 yr As far as I know, TACAN's are used on military airfields. Same sort of working as the VOR's. I am not 100% sure its the mil. VOR but I am sure they are military equipment. So you can use it for navigation when flying in the Dutch skies.T.
April 24, 200323 yr TACAN is in fact a Military navaid facility that provides radial information like a VOR does. But if you don't have the equipment to use it, you can still get DME information from it my using a civilian frequency provided on maps and charts.
April 24, 200323 yr Hello Ferry,If you want to learn more about TACAN Navigation check this URL:http://www.radarpages.co.uk/mob/navaids/tacan/tacan1.htm(I'm sure there are more, but i found this site one very helpful.)regards,Pim
