Hello James,You need a program to connect to VATSIM, file flightplans, speek online etc. I think the most popular one is Squawkbox, but there are others. Squawkbox comes with very good manual. What you absolutely must do before attempting a flight under VATSIM, is working yourself through the lessons which you find on the VATSIM website, under Pilot Resource Center. One of these lessons deals with the language, expressions etc. to speak to ATC.Although I've made some ten flights under VATSIM, I'm still a newbie too, so I know what you're going through, but it is very much worth the effort.Wish you succes!Kind regards,Ren
