Boy, I'm in the dark on this one because I don't know how G/A is supposed to work in the MD-11, but I treated it like a Boeing. In other words, I didn't expect the AP or A/T to do any work for me. As soon as I pressed GA, I dialed in a new speed and pulled the speed knob, then immediatly retracted flaps and gear. Then I pressed NAV to follow the missed approach path. I didn't give the plane time to do anything, so if the A/T commands a new speed or the AP does anything else to get me out of the APP, I can't say.ETA: The book I have says that G/A mode commands the current heading and maintains the current speed or Vmin +5 and climbs using pitch to control speed within the G/A thrust limitations.
