New Computer for FSX Home Cockpit Setup

Featured Replies

I have a home cockpit setup for FSX which has been running for a while now on a three year old computer. I'm planning to have a new system built to replace this computer and am hoping to get some additional horse power out of the simulator. The simulator is setup with four monitors running off of two video cards - one LCD for the instrument panel gauges and three 20" CRTs for the external view. I have customized the 2D external views for forward, forward/right 30deg, and forward/left 30deg. The simulator has a enclosure and all of the controls of a Cessna 172 have been wired up through a keyboard encoder. Below are the specs for the computer I am proposing to buy to replace the three year old one currently running the system. I'm planning to have the system assembled by a custom PC builder. I'd appreciate any input folks have on the system or components. I would say for your first HDD get one with a 32Mb Cache..The i7 920 DO is way cheaper and will easily OC where you want it to be...Personally I like the X58 Gigabyte better..( just me)Personally I love ATI...So no real comments there..Looking good to me...

Based on your input, I think I will change the first hard drive to a 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint 7200 rpm 32MB cache. It only costs about $30 more. Thanks!

I agree that the i7 920 is the one you want. in my opinion it is the only current i7 processor that should be bought. You will save around
