June 1, 200917 yr Nick, has there been any further testing with this tweak that you know of?http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24830does it work without causing other issues?thanks, TimIt works fine and I still use it herethere are no issues with using it. What was reported in that thread as 'flying buildings' was false as that is a bug with FSX that can come up for several reasons none of which have anything to do with the proper use of that edit and flushing the shader temp files
June 1, 200917 yr Author thanks for the info. Nick. the disappearing and re-appearing of the clouds is rather annoying.
June 1, 200917 yr I have a saved flight i normally use for testing stuff, its PMDG MD11 at cruise altitude of FL260.Just tested this cloud fix using time acceleration x8 to make things quicker, and first impression is it works great, no more cloud scenes popping in and out of view. And as for buildings flying, i am not that bothered, since A380's also fly this days. Thanks
June 1, 200917 yr !!!!Caution!!!!I deleted the contents of Misc folder as suggested, and let FSx generate a new one , and my flight was crashing repeatedly soon after takeoff. This happened twice in a row.Comparing the new contents of the misc folder generated by FSX and my original, i found there were fewer files in the new folder than were in the old folder. about 4 more files in the old Misc folder.SO i copied all the files in old misc folder, and paste them in new misc folder, but did not overwrite any files that were already in the new misc folder, so i dont loose settings generated from changing Shader setting. In shortAfter setting the tweak [ bool NewMaterialUsage = false;]1- Backup all contents of original Misc folder2 -Delete all contents of original Misc folder3 - Start FSx, so FSX generates fresh files for Misc folder based on the tweak4 - Go to backup you made of misc folder, copy all the files, and paste i the new misc folder but, dont replace anyfiles that are already in the new misc folder.5 - Better still if you check which files werent genrated by fsx, just copy only those from old misc folder into new misc folder.Apart from that, the tweak appears to be working great so far
June 2, 200917 yr Ok, now you see why I suggested backing up and saving the folder before flushing itI do not have the issues you posted about here nor do others however back when that was being investigated it was about the same time we developed FSWC http://www.fswaterconfigurator.com/ which is a water shader editing tool I collaborated on creating where the similar shader file flush is required (different folder), it was reported by SOME (not many) that the sim was not properly rewriting the files in the shader folder. We never ID'd that issue down to a cause simply because it was rare and there were no common denominators around it. I did consider UAC in Vista may be the reason however there were a few XP users who also reported the sameso that is why I expanded on what Mike, who is a game dev of a large game company, posted about the edit and placed the backup for the MISC folder in the instructions which I am glad you followed. :(
