Question for all the Tech gurus out there!!

:-zhelp I have a Athlon 2400 XP processor on a ASUS MB. My question is I would like to upgrade to the 3000 XP using the same MB, will I be required to re-install XP Pro or not. I thought that I had read somewhere that if you upgrade the MB then a re-install is necessary but I could be wrong..Any ideas greatly appreciated..Thanks in advance!!JC

while it is true that if you upgrade the motherboard you should re-install your operating system, you're not upgrading your motherboard - you're upgrading your processor - so you don't have to worry about it. Simply remove the old cpu, pop in the new one, and you're ready to go! It's as simple as that. hope this helps,Max Cowgill

MAx's advice is right on.... A cpu upgrade shouldn't have any impact on the O/S, other than the obviously improved performance. I did the same going from a P3/450 to an 800 a few years back--no issues at all...-John

Assuming his board has a suitable FSB and updated BIOS for the new CPU. The original poster did not mention the model number of his board.

That's right, make sure your BIOS can handle it. If not you might have to FLASH you BIOS to a newer version or your mobo is not compatible.
