Interesting concept for sim race?

This guy on Hovercontrol has come up with a challenge I think I can sink my teeth into... check out this thread!http://64.34.169.161/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard...0;r=1;topChoice of heli is limited to 2-3 seat pistons and there are other rules which make it even more of a fair test of skill... like the heli's entire fuselage must be within the confines of the starboard rear elevator! You must confirm your time with a video... a catch for some!Robert Alley

I did a quick run in the R22 got 4:01 landing anywhere on the carrier.

Just out of curiosity, what was your time at the last gate? Was it better than 2:57?I can see where the OP can shave his time, he lost some between gates 5-7 and also his approach to the carrier could have been more efficient with a closer base leg. I am fairly certain that if he had cut to an exterior view after landing on the carrier you would have seen all of his fuselage within the elevator. This guy had a good idea about insisting that the heli touch down with its entire fuselage within the elevator. First off it vastly complicates the approach. To add deep insult to injury, once you touch the deck where you are is where you are. The timer will stop and if you take off again you are disqualified. If you don't prove that your heli fuselage is completely within the confines of the elevator... syanora!!!That will vastly handicap those who are not proficient in controlled hover or knowing their steed's dimensions. They will hesitate to touch down since they may not be able to tell if their touchdown spot will be within the parameters. It would be even tougher to insist the landing zone be the elevator just forward of the island... BTW you can fly in any view, the timer will be visible once you take off. You are free to switch views "on the fly" but no use of utilities to change views after your run is complete... we are after speed and displays of piloting skill, not artistic abilities. This is some info the guy who came up with the race concept posted at another site...Upload your video to YouTube... I highly recomend using Firefox with the Fireuploader plugin. I was trying to upload my file for days and it kept tanking before I fired up Fireuploader LOL.Youtube accepts vids up to a gig.Once you have it on youtube, please designate it as a "video reply" to my video that is linked in my original post in this thread.Hey, this is perfect if you want to get your feet wet with videos... get familiar with your capture and compression utilities without the pressure to "polish" it... editing the raw movie file other than compression is against race rules to prevent cheating! Also I don't mind the digital stamp FRAPS puts on the trial version so you don't have to wait till you purchase Fraps to participate! Windows Movie maker is perfectly adequate for compression in this case.

Jack should of made a video of his 4:01 to deck. I did 4:14.5, with the default R22 (which sucks) and posted it to YouTube. I could do better with the Schwitzer 300 but do not know (yet) how to switch helios. Not too difficult. The advanced (tutorial 2) where you have to land on Yacht while it's doing 'evasive manuevers' is ridiculous. Invitation to fail. No body (not me) is going to attempt a landing on a target swearving at 25 kts. Suicide to try. But I guess it can be done if you keep at it-and get lucky. I'd like to see a video of THAT. Link:

. If for whatever reason the link don't work, go YouTube and key in 'napamule' to see it. You don't have to subscribe or make comments (hehe).Chuck BNapamule

Don't have fraps installed but I'll try recording the screen on a camcorder, or at least post a screenshot. Here's my run from today, 3:52.9, cropped screenshot :)Screen shot deleted for being well over the allowed 200K file size.

The problem with a screenshot is you could have landed anywhere on the carrier; then took off and landed on the elevator. I am not saying you cheated; but it is impossible to prove that you didn't.Looks like 4:14.5 is the time to beat... But Napamule why don't you post that run as a "video response" to Donny18088's video so it's easier to keep track of?Robert

It's really not hard, Robert.Just keep your speed up and after the last gate go direct to the carrier behind the elevator.I've been posting here for years and have better things to do than fake screenshots of a game. The time to beat is what I posted, I'm sure others will quickly do so its not hard.I could have shaved a number of secs off, by timing the 8 -9 gates better, its key not to slow too much.

Robert,Will post the next one as video response. I thought it would be easier posting the link like I did. I guess if thread winds up on page 3 it would be hard, so I guess you're right.I had 80% fuel, so maybe with 15% I can do better. So, I am the time to beat? How about that. Not bad for a 69 yr old, eh. Of course I have a kazillion hours flying the whirlybirds. I did Hovercontrol training, etc for about 3 years. Got into vehicle dynamics, so haven't been back lately. I joined back in Feb 2003. Soon after I joined Jordan himself gave me the test (I thought I was ready) but I got nervouse and I 'GOT LOST' doing the flying circuit around airport part. Haha. (Well, I mostly got 'turned around' and made a zig-zag pattern. That was embarassing (what an idiot-hehe).Chuck BNapamule

Here's a video to add to the list 4:02 , pulled up too soon before the carrier cost me about 5-10 secs ...Videos go in the "Video forum" please

Somebody posted a video 0f a 3:56 run, but he posted it as a reply to PeterG2 's original video. It was a legal run in every way, including the cut to exterior to prove his fuselage was entirely on the elevator.Robert
