July 13, 200916 yr Hi, I downloaded the freeware Cougar Autopilot 2 days ago. I got it installed into the aircraft I wanted fine but I am having some problems on one of them. Is this the right forum for this? Or does anyone know who can help me out? Thanks
July 13, 200916 yr Hmm, my first thought when I read the title was that I could make a comment here, but I won't. :)(Sorry I was absolutely useless in answering your question) Tom Perry
July 13, 200916 yr Ok..I got the autopilot to download fine and I got it to work fine but for instance on my Nemeth EC 135 everything works but the cyclic is not steady, when it flies it keeps moving some and shakes the aircraft and it does the same in the default EH101. Now in the just flight r44, it will work fine.I downloaded an MD500 (freeware) and the rudder pedals go crazy back and forth. There was no wind at the time. Thanks
July 13, 200916 yr Well, I can't say I have any experience here, but it sounds like a typical feedback control issue, probably something to do with damping or max input change or something. The problem being, the autopilot sees a need to make a change, but it makes too big a change and then tries to correct, but corrects too far, or it doesn't wait long enough for the input to dampen out and it can never settle on a value because the constraints on what a correct value is are too tight or the changes it makes are too big.If it were me, I would back up the aircraft.cfg file of the offending helicopter and then edit it (with Wordpad or something) and start with the [autopilot] section. I assume they gave you some stuff you had to add to the aircraft.cfg file? Compare the file you have for the helicopter that works with the one that doesn't, then play with some of the values and see what happens. You'll be looking for things like damper_gain or derivative_control. For instance, play with the yaw_damper_gain value. There might also be some values you can change in the Helicopter or fuselage_aerodynamics section or someplace else.If you have the deluxe version, load the SDK and check out the documentation for the aircraft.cfg file, there are a ton of variables that you can control that probably need some slight adjustment for each aircraft. Some might even be missing. Don't be afraid to play, what can happen, you'll crash? :( :)If you are using SP1 or SP2 or acceleration, make sure to download the updates for the SDK from FSInsider.com. July 13, 200916 yr Ok thanks, I will try that and see what happens. Also, some of the helicopters when you put the collective down, they descend quickly which is what I like, but some of the other ones just glide slowly down, do you know of anywhere or anything to change about that?
July 14, 200916 yr Hey I looked at the autopilot for the one that is messing up and the one that is fine and the autopilot settings are exactly the same and most of the other data is the same as well.
July 16, 200916 yr Hey I looked at the autopilot for the one that is messing up and the one that is fine and the autopilot settings are exactly the same and most of the other data is the same as well.Well, that's the point. They are different helicopters, the airfiles are different, I assume there are different settings in other portions of the aircraft.cfg file, which in turn may change the way it interacts with the ap. I imagine you'll have to play with some of the ap settings for each aircraft. Tom Perry
