ASA SP1 Settings Clarification, Please

Featured Replies

Jim,I need to clear my ol' foggy brain here. I have so many FSX addons, it's getting hard to keep up with recommendations whenever an "update" for one comes out. I just installed ASA SP1, and want to make sure I'm still doing things right with it. 1. With ASA SP1, do I need to change any of the "recommendations" in the list below I found a while back concerning ASA? The list came from a forum post concerning settings in FSUIPC and ASA to help with some previous ASA issues:--------------------------------I don't get these massive wind changes and my settings are below. I'm sure all this has been covered before or I'd not have managed it meself!ASA Settings:Enhanced Route Coverage ONCreate Additional Stations ONDynamic rate of change 50%Disable Winds Aloft UNCHECKEDDWC UNCHECKEDMax Wind Turbulance 20%FSUIPC v4.4 (registered) settings:WINDS Tab:Wind Smoothing ON at default, 2 in first box, 0 in secondSmooth Only When Airborne UNCHECKEDSuppress is ON for Turb, Gusts and VarianceWeather Read Interval 2Everything else on the Wind tab is UNCHECKEDCLOUDS tab:Suppress Turbulance ONSmooth Pressure ON at default 20Smooth Temperature (OAT) ON at 100Now those settings will not give you unrealistic ultra-smooth. you will still get turbulance bumps, you will still get variations in Mach of usually about +/- 0.5 so surges & drops in engine power BUT you won't get massive mood swings, stalls, huge overspeeds and you shouldn't get chucked out of the sky. I've used these settings in PMDG 747, LevelD and other add-ons but I havn't got the MD-11; I've done a Vatsim Cross the Pond event with these settings in the PMDG 747 with no problems at all. Whether it 100% reflects real world weather I have no idea but then all weather progs get their data from METARs only and thus everything else is a calculation. There are no METARs for FL380 in mid-atlantic. What does happen is that the wind is generally in the right direction and if it does change then it does so slowly rather than instantly. The pressure and temp smoothing make a BIG difference.Hope this helps. Bill CaseyVatsim-UK New Pilot Mentor---------------------------------2. At one time in the past, I recall seeing a post from you (I think) that listed YOUR recommended ASA settings. I'll be darned if I can find that list of your settings again. If you could point me to it, or list YOUR recommeded settings for using ASA SP1 with FSX Acceleration SP2, I'd really appreciate it. I'm using FSX to fly offline, as I just don't have the time recently to do online flying (if that makes any differnece in your recommended settings). ASA is golden as far as I'm concerned. I just want to make sure I haven't "missed" something settings-wise now that ASA SP1 is in use. I checked the FAQ section in the forum here, but would really appreciate your "most current" recommendations. Thanks for any guidance.Rick

Hi Rick,Continue to use the settings that are working out for you. I am not sure if you were using the beta releases as we were posting them so I don't know how much your ASA has changed with B433. I don't use a registered version of FSUIPC for FSX and I use the default setting of FSUIPC in FS04, so from that I let ASA handle the winds, so I use DWC and I also set the rate of change to zero.Let me know if you need more help. Thanks,

Jim,Thanks for the reply. I have been using the Beta's as they came out, and have the registered FSUIPC. The above settings always seemed to work well for me, so I'll keep using them unless I encounter anything strange. Thanks again for a wonderful addon to FSX.Rick
