fs2004, snow/rain/ice and runways...

Recommended Posts

I've seen the pictures of snow covered rw edges, and aircraft operating under heavy rain showers, but.... do any of these nice visual effects get a counterpart in terms of physics? Are your taxi/takeoff/landings more difficult when you're operating on a contaminated surface, or is it just for your eyes to see???What about icing ?

This has been answered before, NO the aircraft do not skid on wet runway. The snow is only a "visual" feature.

>This has been answered before, NO the aircraft do not skid on>wet runway. The snow is only a "visual" feature. And if FS2004 did, then we'd require.....The ability to de-ice aircraftSimulation of plugged pitot tubes & correct effects for each model aircraft ----- including amperage draw on various models of heated pitot tube.Effect of wet snow locking wheel in wheel pants.Flying snow when the aircraft skids into a snow bank.Emergency vehicles to tow aircraft from snowbank.Anti-lock brakes on emergency vehicles to prevent skidding on way to tow aircraft.A method to prevent the sim pilot from really wanting to takeoff in a blizzard..... VFR with no icing protection. And if he/she does, then simulate all possible scenarios...If a simulation DOES simulate blowing snow, then I expect all of the above & much more............. or I won't consider it "complete" :)

How about airframe icing and carburetor icing in FS2004 ? are these features will be enabled or just only pitot icing like in Fs2002 :-( ?Ericson

ELITE does model icing effects, and of course no tow vehicles are modelled, just the effects it may have on the airframe and pitot...The modelling of slippery effects is also important, otherwise why bother modelling (even if so poorly as MSFS does...) crosswind effects on takeoff & landing, as well prop effects? To give an example, Airline Simulator 2 has a very credible model of contaminated runways.

Yep ... AS2 has FULL flight and ground physics, right down to the tire compressions, friction that depends on the ground conditions ... it's cool :)MSFS is an eye-candy machine, and most pilots don't care if the ground physics are wrong .... Wing Views are KING in MSFS ;) :(I'm going to practice 747-style 18-wheel sliding in MSFS ...BYE!
