Help upgrading from 8600gt into Geforce Gtx 275 or HD4890

Featured Replies

Hello EveryoneAccording into my specs, is it worth to upgrade from an nvidia 8600gt into a Gtx 275 or into an HD4870? Will I notice some diferences running fsx?Currently I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz and 4gb ddr2 -800, I have Windows 7 x64bits... I run FSX at 15/17 fpswith some enhancements in the fsx.cfg but it gets worst if I go to detailed sceneries or if I put detailed clouds... Is it worth to upgrade my graphics? If so, wich do you recommend, the Gtx 275 or the HD4870?Thanks everyone!

Yes it is a worthwhile upgrade. The 8600 GT is severely lacking in graphics rendering capability. You could run higher levels of detail and perhaps also achieve higher framerates, although the framerate in FSX is mostly governed by the capability of one's CPU. For FSX the GTX 275 is the better card. All else is about equal.

Well thank you for your help. I will folow your advice. I know fsx is cpu dependent.. I don

Some people say that the ATI 4800 cards have cloud problems. I have a 4870 1gb and seem to have no problems but to be safe I would go with the 275. I wanted a 260 but thought it might not fit in my case.

I also have the GeForce 8600gt and I just bought an 9800gt so I am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I bought a used one from eBay and I am also looking for a PSU because the one I have right now will not be sufficient. I will report back once I get everything installed and ready to go.Cheers!
