JS41: Engine start without GPU

Featured Replies

I've tried this twice, and had engine explosions both times. After reading the huge red notice saying that push with engines started is prohibited, is it possible to start without the GPU?

Adam (I'm assuming that's your name, since you didn't sign your post),Yes, it's possible to start without the GPU. If your engines are burning up, it's possible that you're forgetting to ensure the props are on the start latches before you start. The way to do this is to pull the power levers all the way to their aft stops and click the unfeather switch. Allow about twenty or thirty seconds for the props to unfeather, then you can put the power levers back to ground idle and try to start then. Before you attempt a battery start, though, check your battery voltage. You need a minimum of 24.0 volts. Batteries drain pretty quickly in the J41, especially if you have the avionics powered up.

Kurt,Thanks. I eventually got it to work, and am now enjoying the luxury of not running over the ground staff when I'm trying to turn off stand! And yes, My name's Adam. I figured it was easier to set my forum account up as my name rather than put my name at the bottom of every post...Regards,<<
