Outer terrain GTL editor

Featured Replies

Hi. I recently downloaded the outer terrain GTL editor. However, none of the sample GTL files provided will load in the editor. The editor's title bar indicates otherwise (i.e. the tile path/filename appears in the titlebar) but the textures never appear. Also, saving a tile appears to generate a dump file (looks like a dump of the hexadecimal as decimal) rather than saving changes to the tile itself. I've followed the instructions in the ReadMe file to the letter but just can't get it to work!Has anyone experienced similar problems with this tool? Many thanks

Which OS do you use? I've found that several programs don't do a thing under Vista unless you run them as administrator.

I'm using XP. Selecting Save As generates the following: "Run-time error 429: ActiveX component can't create object". The editor then closes itself. Loading a file doesn't actually load it. For example, if I load one of the sample tiles provided with the editor then the file appears to load but the textures never change. If I modify the same tile and select Save then the editor converts the 256*256 GTL matrix into decimal and dumps it to a file called dump.doc in the \sample files from dan diego folder.I've just tried the editor on a different XP machine, with the same result.

Hello jstonehouse,This may be the same problem I had with the gtl.dll file. I had to register the dll on my system with regsvr32.exe. Regsvr32.exe is found in your "C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe". I just copied regsvr32.exe and placed in the same folder as gtl.dll, then dragged the dll onto it and the tool registered the dll. DirtyMac's Gtl Editor worked fine after that.Thank you for looking into the outter terrain as I had reached my limits of understanding such complex things.Hope this was helpful. You all take care, jimb

Hi, your previous posts on the subject were really useful so many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. You're right about the dll file - the editor now works, although I've created my own spreadsheet-based editor in the meantime and will stick to that I think. If I can do anything with the terrain elevation then I'll move on to the terrain textures afterwards. It's a shame, because the OT is such a massive area and would be great to spend time in...if only it looked a little better!Jonathan S.
