Outer Terrain Grid Structure Map

Featured Replies

Hi everyoneI've produced a spreadsheet-based map (in Excel and OpenOffice.org Calc formats) of the outer terrain's 41x56 grid structure. This pinpoints the location of all the gtl tiles within the grid and uses cell comments to identify airports/major cities. I've colourised the grid to capture the overall character of the terrain, having tried and failed to get the FU3 map to align with the grid in any useful sense; aligning it in one area misaligns it in another. Not by much, but enough to make locating airports a damn nuisance. As far as I know it's not yet possible to upload this to the library, but if anyone wants a copy then let me know

Hallo Jonathan,That looks good for someone who likes mucking about populating the outer terrain (me...). I have a hard time working out which tile I put stuff on when I modify a few together, or if I want just to pick one out with say FledViewer, or if I see from the air somewhere suitable for a hick-from-the-styx shack village & dirt strip.I heard uploading is possible again. I have 3 OT airports I want to share but Avsim got hacked, my graphics card broke, the replacement was rubbish, I took to using FS9, and......now I'm getting withdrawal problems cos there's something special about FU3. So, there's a new card on order (maybe the new one will work). When I'm up & running again I'll reinstall my FU3, test the installation of what I've been working on and upload (at least for peer review, to see if it's worth updating others...). I also started on a PhotoShop layered OT map but that's been relegated to the 'List of Things To Do- Urgent' which means sometime in the next year or so.So, if the upload now works (I won't know for a couple of weeks yet), let us know what the file is called, or its ID. If it doesn't work, I wouldn't mind a copy of the .xls version if that's ok? You'll get me at defaid at hotmail dot com.Cheers, boyo.

Hi Jonathan,Sorry I took so long to reply- head was in a hole for some time. Thanks very much for the mail & attachment- I've now got a good visual aide-memoire.Did you ever sort out the upload? I finally got mine done... I can only download at the local library (can't upload) and can only upload from work (can't download). Bizarre quirks of security!

Hi DaveNo worries - I hope it's of some use to you. I haven't tried to upload again but might have another go at it tomorrow. Strange things happened last time I tried!RegardsJonathan
