November 26, 200916 yr Hello everyone,I am helping my dad choose a new computer to play Flight Sim 9/X. I have found two machines that might be good (and at the very top of his budget) and would like views on which people think would be better. Note that one is Dell and one is Alienware. I know that building your own is better and cheaper (and that a lot of people probably hate Dell), but we don't have the kind of expertise to build ourselves. Feel free to suggest other things to buy, but in any event I'd appreciate a view on which of the two below is better for Flight Sim.System 1 - Dell Studio XPSi7 950 3.06ghz1.8gb nvidia GTX 2606gb 1067mhz DDR3 ramSystem 2 - Alienware Aurorai7 920 2.66ghz1.8gb nvidia GTX 2606gb 1333mhz DDR3 ramThe Alienware is a little more expensive than the Dell and has a slower processor but faster ram. The Alienware also appears to be more upgradable in the future (it has a much bigger power supply for starters). Which do you think is the better purchase? With regard to overclocking, we don't know how to do that and I'm sure my dad would be very resistant to doing anything that could invalidate his warranty, so assume for the time being that we leave the clock speeds as above. I know this may seem dumb, but I'd still like your views on which of the two is better for Flight Sim.Many thanks!
November 26, 200916 yr Commercial Member FSX demands the fastest CPU you can give it so the XPS looks the better option to me. The turbo boost on the new i7's is also superior to the original release so you will be looking at 3.4Ghz more or less - which is pretty decent. The speed of the DDR3 is not going to make any difference you could notice. Konrad
