9800GT power help

Featured Replies

Hey all!I currently have a 9500GT for my FSX system it runs ok with REX + Ariane 737-800 etc I am going to grab a GFX card for my system.Question is would this PSU be able to power a 9800GT? Does the +12V need to be a single 31A or can it be x2 12V rails say at 15A and 16A? http://www.dabs.com/products/xilence-xp480...l?refs=48870000Would I see a small FPS increase? with the newer card?my specs arePhenom II X3 3.1 Ghz (overclocked to 3.7Ghz) 4Gb Ram GFX 9500GT 1GbMany thanksDan

If those specs are to be believed your upgrade should work fine. I do question the accuracy of those specs though. If you have the money, I'd suggest going with a PSU from a name brand.

I have found a OCZ 500W PSU would a OCZ branded PSU be up to it? also since I play on just a small monitor with quite a low resolution would I see any diffrence buying a 512mb or a 1gb card? since I'm trying to budget on cost.Card I'm looking at is a Zotac 9800GT 512MBMany thanks again

OCZ is ok, not spectacular but certainly better than the first PSU you were looking at. A 512MB card is fine, even up to surprisingly high resolutions and w/AA at that. You really only need > 512MB video RAM if you're running very high resolution aftermarket ground textures or insane resolution + insane levels of AA.

Thanks very much,I'll link the two products I'm looking to buy below see what you think :)PSUhttp://www.ebuyer.com/product/135159GFXhttp://www.ebuyer.com/product/166184Would I see a improvement in my FSX with a 9800GT over my 9500GT?Many thanks again

That PSU will work for sure, I've got one in a spare machine and it powers an 8800 GT which is almost the exact same card as the 9800 GT (actually has a higher power draw due to the chip being on a 65nm process vs. the 55nm process used to manufacture the GPU in the 9800 GT).The card is fine as well, and will definitely give you a performance increase over your current 9500 GT.
