January 24, 201016 yr Hi all,Currently I have a Core 2 Duo 8200 oc'd to 3.4, 6 gigs DDR2 800, Nvidia 260.I am thinking about upgrading to thisAMD 965Asus Crossmark II mobo6 gigs of DDR3 I think I can use the graphics card for now but thinking about upgrading to an ATI 58XX series card this summer.I am still on the fence though on making the switch to AMD. I have thought about an Intel i7 920 based system but I can build this AMD setup for much less.Comments, recommendations and thoughts welcomed.
January 24, 201016 yr Have a look at this review at AnandTech: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showd...?i=3619&p=1Intel Core i7 could be a lot better alternative or an upgrade to a faster C2D.
January 25, 201016 yr AMD's Phenom II chips are approximately equal to Intel's Core 2 chips in performance. The upgrade you propose wouldn't be huge, at least not for FSX. Since you're already at 3.4GHz with your Core 2, the only thing the AMD chip will buy you is a couple extra cores which will help smooth out distant ground textures. Your FPS will remain largely unchanged. If you desire more FPS, you really do need to step up to a core i7 and overclock the snot out of it.
