January 29, 201016 yr Would you rather suggest me to wait for Fermi or keep my GTX285.Here is a short story:I received my card yesterday, as per previous post. Card is technically OK, but the packaging was damaged and card has already been used. What the shop did not know, is that the guy who already had the card registered it with eVGA. So I am not able to transfer the license, and I can't use the 10year guarantee offering. Do I really need it is the question. I also got a great rebate for that on the card, it costed instead of 370€, only 300.They told me I could return the card, without questions asked and have my 300€ refunded.Anyway, I did read on two posts about Fermi how it's supposed to work, but noone can yet give a real comparison. And what's most important, the price comparison. I don't want to cash out 500€ for the GPU, and somewhere around 350€ I would be able to give out, but the question is also how fast would be a Fermi in comparison to GTX285 for the same price.Plus it would offer the DX11, which I hear already some games use. Probably some more will come...So what are your thoughts on this? Should I return the card, and wait for a while - I do have a laptop for general surfing and so, but my main computer wouldn't work until I get some card.
January 29, 201016 yr You will not be able to purchase a GF100-based graphics card when it launches for less than about $600. Don't know what that equates to in Euros but given the pricing habits of "luxury goods makers" in Euro-land, I think you can expect to pay almost 1:1 Euros for Dollars. Also keep in mind GF100-based graphics cards are going to be in very limited supply due to manufacturing issues, as well as being in high demand. This makes for an ugly combination. Unless you pre-order and over-pay, you're unlikely to get a GF100-based graphics card before Summer.I can't make your decision for you, but given these facts I'd say go ahead and get a GTX 285 now. Better yet, get a 275 and save the difference for a GTX 380 when the supply constraint starts to loosen and prices stabilize. I recently picked up a BFG GTX 275 OC for my backup gaming PC, and it's about 90-95% as fast as my OC'd GTX 285 in my main PC.
January 29, 201016 yr Read better: I already bought the card, it's installed and running. Thanks for the advice though. I think I will really gonna keep it... I just played Crysis Warhead (yeah, I am not *only* simming), and oh my...
