January 30, 201016 yr Does anyone know of an add-on or news of some work being done to replace the rain and snow animations?I have looked at the different add-ons and found a lot for water and clouds, even the sun and moon, but nothing for snow/rain FX.I really really hate the rain & snow effects in FSX, IMO compared to FS9 they are a step back and are highly distracting, in a bad way. Makes me feel like I'm in a Star Trek Movie and am tramped trying to jump into warp-speed!Thanks!

This question have been asked over and over but as far as I know no one has figured out how to replace those effects. As I understand it they are very hard to modify due to the different technology used to produce them (I think it's shaders) compared to FS9. My best hope right now is that the geniouses over at REX will rise to the challenge but I've seen no statements other than "we're not adresseing this right now".Still hoping "right now" will pass one fine day.../Jonas ----------------------------------------------------- i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz; 6Gb DDR3; Windows 7 Ultimate x64; Sim disk=300Gb 10,000rpm (VelociRaptor); OS disk=300Gb 7,200rpm Radeon HD 4870 X2; Audigy 2 ZS; Dual monitors=24" Dell Widescreen (TFT) & 19" BenQ (TFT) FSX Acceleration
January 31, 201016 yr Jonas is right, it's a shader issue. Yes, you can adjust the shaders, it's not all that hard, I guess. The problem is that the shaders are universal in FSX, so that adjusting one effect will cause all of the other effects that depend on that shader to change as well. I imagine that using shaders was a more economical situation for the programmers than the old sprite animations. In 2006, you could only render so many shaders before the computer collapsed, so having one shader do many things seemed like a good decision at the time. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
