February 1, 201016 yr Hey PeoplesNot sure if this is the right section of the forums to ask this.....I recently got a PC and I have been using my 42" lcd TV as the monitor via HDMI. I use the DVI->HDMI adaptor that came with my GTX285. Anyways so I've been playing flightsim and what not and everything is looking great at 1900x1200 / 1080p. Yesterday I disconnected the HDMI and connected up a VGA cable to the same TV with the DVI->VGA adaptor. It was running at 1600x1200 and the quality was amazing!! Everything was so much clearer and had more color to it. Alot sharper. Am I doing something wrong :( ??? I thought HDMI was meant to be the newer technology and VGA was meant to be crap... ??I played around with my color settings and what not on the TV but I couldnt get that same level of sharpness and when i used VGA.I dont know much about this resolution/tv/monitor stuff so if anyone has any insight :) ??Thanks heapsJustinoh yeah i obviously tried the HDMI at 1600x1200 but it looked the same. I have another 42" LCD TV (same brand/model) but had the same results aswell.
February 1, 201016 yr 1920x1200 is not a resolution your TV is capable of displaying. You need to use 1920x1080.
February 2, 201016 yr yeah sorry thats what i meant. I couldnt remember the proper 1080p resolution so i quickly googled it. Turns out the first link wasnt good :(Thanks for pointing that out though :)But yeah its running at the highest 1920x1080 32bit. (just double checked now). With any resolution on the HDMI it doesnt look as sharp as VGA. It was a cheapish tv (Hisense) but the PS3 displays the picture just as good asa $4k Sony. Its not realy bad quality.. just not as good as the VGA.
February 2, 201016 yr The output quality is different because of how the inputs are configured by the display driver and/or tv. Chances are the inputs are configured the same on the PC but not the TV. I'd start with that. Set the HDMI input values to the same as those for the VGA and you should get the same or better image quality. You'll need to refer to your TV's owner's manual for guidelines on how to do this, as every TV is different.
