February 7, 201016 yr Hi AllI hope someone here can help meBefore Xmas I purchased a ASUS GTX-285 Matrix , 1gb Video Card to replace the BFG9800gtx I have in my system. My current rig is has Intel Q6600 Quad 2.8 , 4gb on a ASUS P5-nd Mother board with Antec Trupower 850 watt PSU and the Nvidia 195.62 drivers. I have 4 x LG Monitors 19"off a analogue Matrox THGO, running @ 3840 x 1024 and 1440 x 900 resp.In either FS2004 or FSX when ever I run active sky , add real world weather , do an outside view or approach a Aerosoft mega Airport my machine just shuts down dead. I added some temp software to monitor the GPU and CPU temps , but on shutdown everything is within tolerances.I have done some research and found that the my PSU has a 4 Rails each with a 18amp capacity, the card has to 2 x inputs ( 36amps ) and according to various sources this card can pull 40amps , hence the shutdown . I am right here ?I have no interest in overclocking it and when I run it in 2D it has no problems, The funny thing is that the card came shipped with Batman Arkham, I can run that on the TH2go at full spec and it has no problem, Could it be a flight Sim issue ?Just could do with hearing from some experts in field so to speak before I lay out another
February 8, 201016 yr Reset your BIOS to stock settings and see if it still shuts down. What you've described is indicative of either overheating or PSU inadequacy. I doubt the latter, given the make and model but it could be faulty. Multi-rail PSUs actually combine rails under load. Your PSU has a maximum sustained delivery of 70A on the +12V rail(s), definitely enough to handle the draw of your components.
February 8, 201016 yr Like Max says I suspect your PSU and heat could do the same, but doesn't that 285 dump the heat out the back of the case?My personal experience with Antec is not good, They look nice, good on paper but I have had three fail all within a year of when I bought them for three different systems, I'll never buy Antec again.Hoping BFG is better.

Their quality now is significantly better than what it was only a year ago. In fact, they now use the same OEM as the likes of Silverstone, a brand renowned for quality.
February 8, 201016 yr Rather than researching power supplies in a flight game forum you are better off heading to a more reputable source of information on PSU
February 8, 201016 yr Rather than researching power supplies in a flight game forum you are better off heading to a more reputable source of information on PSU's -http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3 Right, because there's certainly no one here capable of providing advice :( For the record, I bought my Antec Earthwatts 650 based on Johnny Guru's review of said unit.

February 9, 201016 yr Author Hi AllThanks for all your replies and comments .I have reset my bios to default settings , and reset the card ( it has a safe mode switch ), Still shutdown when weather is on .Checked the heat out the back of the PSU and Card , nothing that warm to worry about .I have had a look at the PSU site and will take some recommendations from there .I am beginning to think the card is at fault the ASUS control panel on bootup is now setting the shader clock to zero ( usually 1512 )Any more useful comments or ideas will be welcome. Thanks
