JS41 Repainting Thread

Featured Replies

Instead of cluttering the repaint request thread with posts, I thought I'd start this thread. I am trying my hand at repainting the JS41. Does anyone know where the decals for the emergency exits are located? I want to get rid of them (I can find the emergency handle layers, but not the decals). Thanks.

Hi DavidI had a hard time finding these as well, mainly because they are not a part of the repaint kit.You will find the master sheet for all the decals in the main texture folder of the Jetstream, the file to look for is named

Hi DavidWhen the aircraft first loads FSX will look for the textures to use, and it will head straight for the versions own texture folder to find them, when FSX finds that a texture is not present in the aircrafts own texture folder it then uses the main fallback texture folder to look for any of the files in can not find in the aircrafts own texture folder. The end result of all this waffle is that if you copy the decal texture file into your repaints own texture folder, and then modify it by say changing the text colour from red to white, then when the aircraft loads FSX will use that decal texture and will not look for it in the main fallback texture folder, and your other aircraft will as usual use the original decal texture from the main fallback texture folder. In fact if you open the texture.cfg file that is present in all the texture folders you will see which folders are used besides the actual textures in the repaint folder itself for thins such as the VC textures.I hope it helps, and I hope I have not made a complete mess of trying to explain it.Jim Hodkinson

That is exactly what I was wondering. Thanks again, Jim!

So, Jim, if you want to delete a decal, you have to paint it the same color as the fuselage color, then fix the alpha channel along with the spec file?

Hi DavidGood question, you know I have never done a repaint where I needed to remove any part of the decal sheet, but thinking about it I can not see any benefit to redoing the alpha or spec sheet, mainly because those files are created from the repaint without the deals present anyway, so it would seem to be a bit redundant to redo them as to all intents and purposes they would be exactly the same with or without the decals present, and although it would certainly not do any harm to redo them it does seem to be a little bit of a belt and braces way of doing it.As for the method of removing them, I would think that your method would do the job, my only thought is that the colour match would really have to be spot on, also as I am not sure how the decal sheet is processed to get it into the game so you may get a ghosting effect where the original decal was anyway, even if the colour match was exact, this is certainly a try it and see kind of issueIt is still a good question though.Jim Hodkinson
