Graphics Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi there. I've just recently build a new system for FSX that consists of an i5 750 @ 3.8 - 4.0GHz, 4Gb 1600MHz CAS 8 RAM and Win 7 64bit. I carried over my old GPU which is a XFX 9800GT "xXx" Edition. I know that FSX is more CPU bound than anything but I still feel the need for a GPU update. The resoultion I run at is 1920 x 1080. I also have a budget of

Intel Core i7-3770K @ 4.4GHz|Asus Maximus V Extreme|16Gb Ballitix Tracer @ 1866MHz|EVGA GTX680 SC Signature SLI|Asus Xonar Pheobus|Custom Watercooling|Corsair AX1200W PSU|CM Cosmos II

You could benefit from a GPU upgrade, more so if you run high graphical settings. Nvidia has new cards coming out on the 26th, but they're going to be rather expensive and likely won't come down to your budget level for several months. If you don't mind waiting, that's your best bet. Otherwise, a GTX 275 or 285 would do the trick nicely now.

What about a HD5850??? Heard that they are pretty good with FSX.

I upgraded from an 8800GT OC 512 to a HD5850 Black. Graphics seem a bit cripser.

The Radeon 5850 and 5870 are fantastic gaming cards, but some users have reported reduced IQ and/or little to no performance gains compared to the GTX 285.
