April 7, 201016 yr I've switched to Win7 x64 now and am in the phase of re-installing everything. Yesterday I came across something where I'd need an explanation from an expert:I seem to have a problem with the calibration of my 3-axis Saitek throttle quadrant (my MD-11 loads with engines 1 and 2 spooling higher than no. 3, thus forcing the plane into a right turn on the runway). So, I went into the calibration for the device in FSX.What I see there is a rather "generic" depiction of the devices' axis. Two axis (the ones used for engine 1 and 2 in my MD-11) steer a cross in the calibration dialog, the 3rd axis is "identified" as an axis there and a bar is displayed for it. What a coincidence that it's exactly the two axis which aren't displayed the same way as the 3rd one give me problems...I went into the Win7 control panel to look whether I can do more there in the calibration dialog for the device. When I call this up, I get a different depiction of the axis, they're all displayed as axis and move as expected. So, I guess the dialog that I get in the Win7 control panel is the one the Saitek driver delivers, and the one in FSX is somehow a Windows "common" dialog that only detects the number of axis and assumes something like a yoke (that's why I think two axis drive a cross in a box). For some reason the Saitek dialog isn't "forwarded" to FSX, which may be the reason for my problem with 2 axis. An explanation that I can think of is that the Saitek driver and dialog are 64 bits and FSX calls the 32 bits dialog which looks and behaves differently.I still have to check if a calibration in the Windows control panel is reflected in FSX so I don't need to calibrate there. Maybe someone can give me a hint on how to calibrate my game devices properly and if I made a mistake...I still have a registered version of FSUIPC4 as a last resort, I could remove axis assignment in FSX and pass control to FSUIPC4, but I'd like to try with FSX first.I ran Vista x64 before and cannot remember to have seen different calibration dialogs there, nor did I experience any throttle axis problem. Would it help to launch FSX in some compatibility mode? Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
April 9, 201016 yr Author I couldn't get the Saitek throttle quadrant to work correctly using FSX axis assignments alone, idle thrust on the throttle was about 30% thrust in any plane :(.So, I gave up and switched to FSUIPC4 where I now have smooth and fully working throttle axis for my PMDG MD-11 (and the rest of my aircraft of course) :(. Thank you, Peter Dowson, for that valuable tool. Without it, I'd be lost in FSX... Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
