April 15, 201016 yr Greetings all,I've been out of the hardware loop for awhile and recently noticed that an HD4670 is around 70 dollars. Is it worth upgrading to this card from a 7800GTSw/ 256mb of mem.I'm still running a 3.4ghz pent. an a asus p4c800e deluxe mobo. Thanks for any suggestionsBest regardsAndrew
April 15, 201016 yr Hi Andrew,No.We're talking Flight Sim, which hungers for CPU cycles. Upgrading to an even moderately modern card is not your priority, because its extra performance will be completely bottlenecked by your CPU. The HD 4670 is a mainstream card and two years old, so even at $70 it's not a good deal. In my opinion, the only sane approach for you is to save that money toward a complete system upgrade. You can build a much more powerful machine for $500
April 15, 201016 yr You need a new computer. That motherboard doesn't even support PCI-express. Save your money for a new system. P4 + AGP is ancient technology.
April 15, 201016 yr Thanks for the reply,I am well aware that my system is out of date;however i was wondering if this card would allow me to tweak out a little more performance on fs9.70 bucks is a far cry from 1500, and possibly really upsetting the significant other in my life(LOL)Please tell me moreAndrew
April 15, 201016 yr Your motherboard doesn't support PCI-e graphics cards. It only supports AGP cards. AGP was phased out years ago. There are few worthwhile AGP cards which can be purchased today. The HD 4670 isn't exactly a fast card. Since it has only 8 ROPs and a 128-bit bus, it is only a marginal upgrade over your current card. If you feel like you absolutely must upgrade your current PC, look for an HD 3850 AGP. It is a good deal faster than the 4670, having twice the ROPs and bus width.
April 16, 201016 yr Thanks techguy, that hit the nail on the head for me.After doing somemore research i found that this is the only card reccommended for an AGP upgradeThank you very much for your helpbest regardsAndrew
