April 30, 201016 yr Ok, I'm striving with the apple delivery mission. After getting to the first two air strips, my buddy says to pass over the mountains to get to the third one, so I set autopilot to get to 6000ft (700ft/min VS) full throttle. When the plane climbs through about 5000ft, it starts bleeding speed, manifold pressure drops to 0 and it drops into the ground like a brick.I tried playing with fuel pumps, cowl flaps, mixture settings, but I don't seem to get anywhere. Two other things that may matter: I switched all heaters on before takeoff and left them on; I didn't touch prop control.Which ones do the trick? Tnx!!

April 30, 201016 yr There's a bug in the virtual cockpit - if you switch prop heat on in the VC, the switch will move when you click it, but nothing actually happens in the sim. However if you change to the 2D cockpit you will be able to click the switch and set the prop heat properly. Without it on you won't be able to maintain your speed in the climb. Make sure pause is off as well when making changes on a panel.HTHDavePS - there are some other bugs in the CRJ700 and A321 virtual cockpits too, someone over at simviation recently released a patch for them. I'm sure there are others too :-(
May 1, 201016 yr All you have to do is lean out the mixture on the engines. (Pull the red levers down till the engines start to studder then put it up a little above that point)Ok, I'll do! Do you think the carb heater permanently on is a problem? I read something about this in the FSX guide.
May 1, 201016 yr Ok, I'll do! Do you think the carb heater permanently on is a problem? I read something about this in the FSX guide.Mixture would only be an issue if you have "automixture" turned off in your realism settings - and without an appropriate hardware throttle quadrant I wouldn't have thought turning this option off would be a good idea. The problem is that you if you turn on prop heat via the virtual cockpit, it doesn't actually work. The switch moves, but nothing happens. If you go into the 2D cockpit and flick the prop heat switch you will not have further problems with that climb in this mission.HTHDave

May 3, 201016 yr I've played that mission a couple of times only, and since I only fly in the VC the switch bug caught me out both times (which is why I remember it). So I guess you could say I have never flown the whole mission with prop heat on.One thing is for sure, if your de-icing is working correctly and you have auto mixture on, you should have no problem with that climb.
May 5, 201016 yr One thing is for sure, if your de-icing is working correctly and you have auto mixture on, you should have no problem with that climb. Finally auto mixture saved my flight!Just one strange thing: in the last leg the left engine goes off; is it normal that manifold pressure remains high??
May 5, 201016 yr Finally auto mixture saved my flight!Just one strange thing: in the last leg the left engine goes off; is it normal that manifold pressure remains high??Interesting, I never flew with it off as I don't have a throttle quadrant. The engine shutting down is part of the mission, its a scripted event designed to give you a bit of a challenge I guess.
