Dust and shutdown problems -- some advice

Featured Replies

About a month ago I started to get shutdowns of my system. No Blue screen, no program exception--the system would just turn off. The shutdowns would come after about an hour of activity.I thought it might have been a power supply or motherboard issue, maybe even a cpu issue. Temps were normal, so my first action would have been to try replacing the power supply. My system had been superbly stable and had not crashed once in the 14 months I had owned it previous to my issues.I decided however to first thoroughly blow the dust out of the system. I did not see much, but I used a can of compressed air and blew out all the major components and the power supply. That was two weeks ago, and the hourly shutdowns have gone away.Moral of the story (I don't drop by the hardware forum often so maybe this has been said before)--start with a simple fix and work your way through the issue. I am pretty certain I saved myself the cost of replacing my power supply or motherboard.Regards,John

John- similar story here. Our 8 year old BR TV stopped responding to the remote. After checking batteries and several diagnostics, used a can of air to blow out the key buttons on the remote. Bingo- just like new! And saved buying a new TV. Keyboards probably deserve the same PM.Alex Reid
