3 engine sound packs, why do they say 2 engines?

Featured Replies

Looking at the sound.cfg files for most 3 engine sound packs, like the MD-11 and DC-10, why does the sound.cfg say number of engines = 2??

Hi David,I not good with sound.cfg's but my 727 sounds from turbine sound studios have 3 as the number of engines. So i dont think it has to be 2 for any reason. Try contacting the authors. :( David Ranieri.

Hi David,As the last poster, I am only a novice at these things. I only fly the Default 747-400, and it too shows up as 2 engines in the Sound.cfg file. Attached is part of that file for the 747 (to show my understanding of this):[FLTSIM]product_code=FSIM[sOUND_ENGINE]number_of_engines=2eng1_combustion=COMBUSTION.1.00eng1_jet_whine=JET_WHINE.1.00eng1_starter=starterAeng1_shutdown=shutdownAeng1_combustion_start=combstartAeng2_combustion=COMBUSTION.2.00eng2_jet_whine=JET_WHINE.2.00eng2_starter=starterBeng2_shutdown=shutdownBeng2_combustion_start=combstartB==== STARTUP / SHUTDOWN SOUNDS ==== [sTARTERA]filename=ban1startviewpoint=1link=starterA.1[sTARTERA.1]filename=xban1startviewpoint=2[sTARTERB]filename=ban1startviewpoint=1link=starterB.1[sTARTERB.1]filename=xban1startviewpoint=2[sHUTDOWNA]filename=ban1shutviewpoint=1link=shutdownA.1[sHUTDOWNA.1]filename=xban1shutviewpoint=2[sHUTDOWNB]filename=ban2shutviewpoint=1link=shutdownB.1[sHUTDOWNB.1]filename=xban2shutviewpoint=2[COMBSTARTA]filename=ban2startviewpoint=1link=combstartA.1[COMBSTARTA.1]filename=xban2startviewpoint=2[COMBSTARTB]filename=ban2startviewpoint=1link=combstartB.1[COMBSTARTB.1]filename=xban2strtviewpoint=2Take for eg. the Startup. You will see StarterA and StarterA.1. But under StarterA, there is a link to StarterA.1. So I assume that for the 747, there are four starters (which is correct), but only 2 engines. Another assumption: the number of engines is not important, but that those two engines start up four times. So whether MS wanted to list 4 engines or 2, is not the point, but that you will have four distinct engines with their respective sounds and functions. Anyway, just for your info, which may be similar to your DC 10 or MD 11.Chris David
