June 15, 201015 yr I am thinking of buying new computer and would like thoughts on this particular system for FS9 and/or FSX....... I fly PMDG products but do not use much in the way of add-on scenery....FS Global any comments from current users or experts would be very much appreciated. Thank youALIENWARE
June 15, 201015 yr Comments:I would prefer 6 GB of faster memory to the 9 GB 1067 MHz memory.I assume that Alienware wouldn't try to power a video card with inadequate amperage, but using a 350W power supply makes me suspicious. The i7-920 will handle FS9 superbly, but to get the most out of FSX will require it to be overclocked. This will require a cpu heatsink/fan upgrade and a decent power supply. Art

I would only upgrade to FSX for the PMDG 777. I don't want to make the same mistake w/ a new system as I did w/ the last. My system capacitors are gone and this news was not greeted w/ a smile today. I was told to get Windows 7 Professional as it will "trick" the computer into thinking it is an XP which I suppose is good since all my add-ons were developed for XP, any thoughts?
June 15, 201015 yr Avoid alienware. You will get a better system for the same cost if you build your own. What's your budget?

June 15, 201015 yr Build your own. Look at my second system. That is in AU dollars but you could get a similar system in US for about 1400.
June 15, 201015 yr I also would not consider Alienware a good value. There are a number of other, less expensive provider options for a semi-custom computer, and by purchasing the individual parts and assembling them yourself gives you complete control. Chris493's second (everyday use) computer is more powerful than anything I would deem necessary, but I think you might be wise to shop around some more before making your decision. I think 550W is minimum for a gaming computer power supply. It is important for the power supply to provide 38+ amps of 12V power, spread between not more than 2 rails, for the more powerful video cards. I'm not familiar with the idea of fooling the computer into thinking the OS is Windows XP, or the reason for it as far as FSX. The best OS for FSX is Windows 7. Art
June 15, 201015 yr Also get a decent mobo and CPU cooler for good overclocking of CPU. A high airflow case of any kind, plus a HD monitor decent nVidia card (GTX 275,285,470,480). Look at i7 930 with 6 GB 1600MHz low latency tri channel ram. That would be a good system.
