June 28, 201015 yr Hey Jim,So first a question and then a request... (Happy summer break btw, I think I remember reading you were a teacher somewhere)So the question... ASE (latest version) w/FS9 over WideFS and Suppress on Ground enabled b/c I can not take the performance hit when taxiing or taking off with ASE's depiction Mode Active yet I still get Depiction Mode Active in ASE when on the ground; why? Shouldn't suppress on ground being enabled prevent this? Those three green words are literally the only thing that can still bring FS9 to its knees...So that was the question, now the feature request...I would love to see a Depiction PAUSE button... This way when it fires of as I am 4 miles out from final I can quickly pause ASE's Depiction Mode Active and land without performance being affected. To my point earlier, anytime ASE goes into depiction mode it cripples FS and I would love to see a way to temporarily pause that update until after a critical moment of the flight.IMHO that is my single biggest issue with ASE, it can cripple performance when it fires off...Thanks in advance,-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
June 28, 201015 yr Hi Paul,That is correct! Been done about 10 days now.Suppress on Ground prevents the data updating, but does not pause ASE, the processing is still taking place.A pause feature would need to break the communication path between FS and FSUIPC, then the un-pause re-establish communication. I am not sure this is possible without re-starting ASE. Send this as a feature request to tell-us(AT)hifisim.com for the team to look at.If you want for now, shut down ASE and you'll still get the weather from ASE for a brief period of time in FS. Not sure why you are getting the performance hit. Is your AV scanning the data?

As for the performance hit, I did not even think about it... I have AVG on the same box as ASE but nothing on the FS box. Don't know why I didn't consider AVG on the client box with ASE affecting performance... I will look at AVG on my next flight (end of week, going out of town today) and see if there is indeed an issue there. If that doesn't work I will try the shutting down ASE temporarily and even just killing WideFS to see how it affects ASE and as a last resort i will enter the feature request....I will give everything else a whirl first though Jim,Thanks as always and ENJOY!!!-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
