July 1, 201015 yr Hello all,I hope this is in the right section! I recently replaced a 22" 1680x1050 monitor with a 26" 1920x1200 monitor. Now I have the 22" monitor collecting dust and I've been reading how some people have a dual monitor set up with FSX where the gauges can be viewed on the 2nd monitor while the main monitor is used for the main view etc.I can't seem to find any basic guides for setting up a dual monitor and the ones I can find relate to specific hardware like nVidia or a triple monitor set up. My GPU is an XFX 5870 which connects to my main monitor via HDMI. The GPU has an additional 2 DVI sockets and my spare monitor has a DVI socket, so connecting the 2nd monitor shouldn't be a problem. What would be the best way of setting up my 2nd monitor, if possible, considering the resolutions are different? Thanks for any input.Mark
July 1, 201015 yr In your graphics card control panel there should be a menu called setup multiple monitors or something similar. In this, you want to set your primary display to the HD monitor, and then there should be an option to have dual monitors, where you can either clone or have seperate displays. You want to select the second option. Then set the old monitor as your secondary monitor. It will show a different image from your primary and when in fsx, just undock your windows and drag them onto the second screen. Hope this helps,
July 1, 201015 yr Thanks Chris! That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be! I can now open instruments on my 2nd monitor, but they are a bit big.....how can I make them smaller? I have the 2nd monitor set to its native res of 1680x1050 but when I open the GPS for example it practically takes up the whole screen!Mark
July 1, 201015 yr you should be able to resize all 2d panels, move the mouse around the edges/corners until you see the arrow, then drag to resize as required Regards, Philip Lodge PC specs; Windows 7 64 bit home premium, Asus P6X58D-E, Intel core i7 930 @ 4.0 GHz, Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600MHz triple channel RAM, POV GTX 470, 500gb HDD + 250gb FS HDD, 24" 1920 x 1200, 19" 1280 x 1024 GoFlight MCPPro, VRInsight CDU II, Saitek Pro Flight Radio Panel. July 1, 201015 yr Thanks Philip...that worked...should have realised that myself!Just one more thing!......on the 2nd monitor I have black bars down the side of the monitor so it's like I can't use the whole screen. FSX is set to 1920x1200 which is the res of my main display, so is that what's causing the black bars on the 2nd display? The 2nd display doesn't seem to be widescreen at all...seems more 4:3 and it should be 16:10.Thanks,Mark
July 1, 201015 yr think that because of the different resolutions, this is normal. I have 3 identical monitors so I cannot say. However I think that FSX is trying to display 1920x1200 on both displays, causing one to display normally, and one to fill the gaps with the black bars. Maybe I'm wrong, but in FSX try setting the resolution to 1680x1050, then the primary should be either poorer quality image, or have black bars, and the secondary should be normal.
July 1, 201015 yr I think you are right! I will try that very soon....just taking advantage of the CaptainSim sale!
July 2, 201015 yr I tried changing the res in FSX to 1680x1050 and the main screen ended up with a black box around the screen as expected, but the monitor that is 1680x1050 still had thick black bars down the side so I can only put gauges and instruments in the middle of the screen, which fills up quickly!Hmmmmm...I'm sure there must be something obvious I'm overlooking....I'll do some more searching......**Edit**Yay...got it!! I opened up the fsx.cfg file and right down there at the bottom of the file was my 2nd monitor set to 1024x768.....changed it to 1680x1050 and now it's perfect and I can get all my main gauges and instruments on the screen!!Thanks for all your help guys....setting this up wasn't at all as complicated as I thought it would be considering all my searching just led me to people having numerous problems....guess I got lucky!Mark
July 2, 201015 yr Good you figured out yourself. I was going to suggest the fsx.cfg next but you figured so well done.
