August 2, 201015 yr Hey everyone,I like to use the WILCO A320 for short range flights and have had issues with the TOD point. This has happened once with my Level D 767 too.The problem is that I am at cruise at FL360 or something and reach the TOD and reset the MCP altitude to whatever is the constrained altitude (or the goaround altitude if I'm feeling lazy and set constraints on the way down) and the top of descent point is set too close to the arrival airport! This happens a LOT with the airbus, and as I said it happened only once with the 767 (thought I've only had it for 2 weeks and am still getting used to it).I guess I should ask here for some clarification of the descent rate and angle of attack that is normal for these aircraft in the descent phase? Thanks!

RC always starts my descent before I get to the calculated TOD point. When I leave FL360 for example, I get a clearance to FL240. I descend at a rate of 4000 fpm, and speed build up to 300 knots then descent rates of 2000-3000 fpm. Checking with altitude plates on the STAR I am never too high. Once down to 11000 feet, I slow to 210 knots until contacted by arrival. TOD is a "calculated" point. ATC will always give you the start of descent depending on traffic and flow control.Hope this helpsBob
