AI Traffic Texture Loading

Featured Replies

Hi allI've searched high and low and haven't found a solution to my problem: FS9 runs brilliantly, but I still get major stutters whenever AI traffic textures are loaded. Ground textures are perfectly smooth, but as soon as I approach a new AI aircraft, the sim stutters until the textures are loaded. I'm using WOAI traffic, and I've tried converting to DXT1 but no difference. FS9 also runs off its own harddrive (defragmented).Doesn't matter if the traffic is set to 10% or 100%, even a single AI aircraft causes a momentary stutter, and on final approach to any airport it gets a bit ridiculous as the sim stutters every time an aircraft gets within "texture showing range". Also say on base leg, you turn onto final approach and the sim stutters for ages while all the aircraft textures at the airport are loaded. Approaching from far away, I can see the "unpainted" white models of all the AI, and they load fine, but get close enough for the textures to load and... stutter!Turning off AI Traffic eliminates the stutters completely. What else can be done to help smooth the loading of these textures? Everything else is working brilliantly after years of tweaking, but I can't get this AI traffic problem sorted.

As is so often the case, you spend ages trying to fix something and as soon as you ask for help, the solution presents itself :)Uninstalled ALL traffic, and then reinstalled the WOAI packages as per default installation. All stutters gone. It would seem that converting the textures to DXT1 actually had a negative effect on my system.
